Simon Weiss - People II
That’s pretty much all the information you’re going to get from Simon’s Soundcloud. Ten minutes of googling won’t get you much further. Head over to Simon’s Resident Advisor Page however, and you’ll see labels such as Rush Hour and Kolour pop up on his profile (but still no actual info about the man himself). Browse further and you’ll see his track ‘Amsterdam Wave’ appearing on Rush Hour’s much anticipated ‘Amsterdam Allstars’ longplayer, due to drop in November.
Simon Weiss – to the seasoned internet trawler – is best described, and can only be described – through his music.
Title track ‘People II’ starts with stuttering, gritty, live percussion – complimented after a few bars by a female voice chatting away in the background – perc, kicks and tension still building. An etheral female vocal is added to the mix before the track breaks into a tumbling, tinkling piano line and a sub-bass that could probably reverse dental work.
Our boy NY*AK really goes to work on his remix. He enlisted local friend and Hero Mark Hand to assist on Keys, and christ – it’s a match made in deep, quirky house heaven. NY*AK focusses on the female vocals and a hypnotic organ line, slowly adding erratic, clatterring percussion before the kick drops out, tension rises – and a bass line drops that you’d literally sell your vital organs for. I would anyway.
Simon steps back in to round things off with ‘Make A Universe Instead Of’. Instead of what? Who knows. The title isnt important though. Simon pushes the tempo slightly here with his take on Disco-influenced house. A funky as hell bassline, strings and samples looped, filtered and chopped to devastating effect.
I like that Simon lets his music speak for himself, because it’s a joy to hear what he has to say.
